Professor John Kaldor (He/Him)

John Kaldor is a NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow and Professor at the Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales. For over 30 years he has built and led internationally recognised research programs on the epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases, with a particular focus on HIV, other bloodborne and sexually transmitted infections, and more recently, neglected tropical diseases including trachoma and scabies. His work has included the development and implementation of public health surveillance systems, investigations of risk factors for infectious disease transmission, and evaluations of public health intervention strategies. His research has been primarily in remote and rural communities facing limited access to health services, both in Australia and low- and middle-income countries in the Asia-Pacific region and Africa.
With over 750 peer reviewed scientific publications that have been cited collectively over 30,000 times, Professor Kaldor has been a highly influential contributor to public health knowledge and policy. He has served on numerous policy and advisory committees in Australia and internationally, and has had close collaborative relationships with public health researchers in a number of countries of the Asia-Pacific region.
