The session highlighted the importance of addressing social and cultural determinants of health, emphasising their significant impact on health outcomes. It underscored the need to prioritise the public good over neoliberal policies, which can exacerbate health inequalities. Community-led responses and interventions were identified as a key opportunity for global health, as demonstrated by the effective actions taken by indigenous groups during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moreover, the importance of building genuine relationships with Indigenous Peoples and empowering communities to address health challenges is vital. Overall, the session called for a shift towards more inclusive and equitable approaches in global health policy and practice.
